RUTILE
Rutile is one of a group of titanium dioxide minerals (TiO2), predominantly used in the manufacture of white pigment. Rutile, as well as other TiO2 minerals, are used in the pigment industry, due to their particularly high brightness and opacity characteristics. White pigment itself is then used in the global paint, plastics and paper industries. Rutile is also used as a key input in the manufacture of welding electrodes. Rutile is also used in increasing volumes in titanium metal production, where rutile’s high titanium content makes it the preferred source of titanium units. Our rutile suppliers are located throughout the globe, though we purchase the bulk of our supplies from South Africa, Sierra Leone, and Australia. We can supply rutile of any typically available purity, though deal primarily in welding grade 92% and above (94%, 95%). We purchase large volumes of rutile for the welding industry, but are also able to utilize our purchase power to supply any form of rutile.

How we do it?
Muscovite Mica has a long established history of use in rutile electrodes for steel. The main beenfits of incorporating mica into the flux coatings for such electrodes are: The plate shape of mica influences the rheology of the flux mix during the extrusion coating process. Faster rates of drying and curing can be employed with a reduced risk of cracking The elastic mica flakes toughen the flux coating and reduce damage during handling and transportation both before and after drying Cracking is also reduced when electrodes are bent during use The melting point of mica is beneficial for all types of steels Mica offers a useful source of potassium without altering silicate binder chemistry We are able to supply mica in any mesh size or normal specification so please contact us for any mica enquiries.
